The Annapolis Valley Regional Library offers library materials in a variety of formats. You may wish to try out one of these:
Large Print Books
There are over 9,500 large print titles in our collection. You will find a collection in each of our locations. You can see the newest titles added to the collection through this new large print fiction list.
These are recordings of popular books on CDs and MP3 CDs. The new audiobooks list is updated on a regular basis, so be sure to check often.
Downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks
A growing collection of downloadable eBooks and audiobooks is available to download directly to your device through the free OverDrive app or to your computer.
Collections and Services for Those with Perceptual or Print Disabilities
There are additional collections and services available to those with a perceptual or print disability as defined in the Canadian Copyright Act.
One of these is NNELS (National Network for Equitable Library Service).
A print disability is anything that prevents or inhibits someone from reading a work in its original format (usually a printed book) as a result of:
- Severe or total impairment of sight or the inability to focus or move one's eyes
- The inability to hold or manipulate a book
- An impairment relating to comprehension
This service requires the completion of our Alternative Service Application Form. Registration for this service includes longer loan periods, no overdue fines and access to additional collections reserved for this purpose. If desired, staff can create a user profile for you and select material for you based on this profile. There are two methods of delivery available through this service. You may choose postage free delivery of materials to your home mailbox or pickup at your local branch. We also have a few MP3 players and CD players that you may borrow.
Institutions offering programs to persons with print disabilities may use this service through our Institutional Alternative Service Application Form.
